Personal Media Server

plex

A great tool I recently discovered that allows me to establish my own personal media server is Plex. Plex actually is being added to all LG network connectable devices by LG. This free Media Server software runs in the background of your home computer. You no longer need to get a special hard drive or computer and dedicate it completely to being your media server.

It runs in the background and in my experience doesn’t significantly slow down your computer.

The one really big downside currently is that there isn’t a Windows client for viewing the content on your server. However, there are Android, iOs, Mac OS, Samsung TV and Blu-Ray, As well as others available. The Android and iOs clients will cost about 5 bucks but the rest of the software including the server itself is free.

With great features such as automatically detecting metadata and updates to the library. I highly recommend Plex for a home media server.

Let us know below any other media server set ups you have used and like.
